Susan Gorney Grettler, 74 of Roanoke Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday April 25, 2021. Susan was the daughter of the late Frank Sr., and Frances Gorney She is also preceded in death by a brother Joseph Gorney.
Susan is survived by her husband of 50 years, Terry Grettler, a daughter Cyndi Fuhrer (Mitch) of White House, TN and a son Michael Grettler (Alyssa) of Enfield, CT. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kyle, Kassidy and Olivia. Susan is also survived by a brother Frank Gorney and sister Agnes Schultz and many nieces and nephews.
Susan was a graduate of St. Benedict Academy and attended Mercyhurst College. She spent many years being an active member of several churches. Susan was the Director of Music and Liturgy at Holy Cross Church in Fairview, PA where was also a member of the liturgy committee,volunteered with the confirmation class and retreat, and taught religious education. After Susan and her husband moved to Roanoke Virginia in 1994, Susan was the Catholic Campus Ministry at Roanoke College until her retirement in 2008 after more than 12 years. During her time at Roanoke College, Susan was well known with the students for her Sunday suppers and always had a place at the dinner table for many of the foreign students.
After her retirement, Susan was an active member of St.Gerard's and a friend to many of the members there. Susan was most recently the Liturgy Coordinator at Church of the Transfiguration in Fincastle, VA. Susan was also an associate member of the Sisters of St. Joseph. She will be most remembered as a dear and loyal friend to those that knew and loved her.
A Funeral Mass will be held at her home church and where she married her husband, Holy Trinity Church, Erie PA on Monday May 3rd at 11:00am. Visitation will be preceding at 10:00am. Private burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

Also a Memorial Mass will be held at the Church of the Transfiguration in Fincastle VA at a date to be determined.
