Retired Erie School District principal, Donald R. Kenton, age 79, passed away peacefully Thursday October 14th, 2021, following a lengthy illness.
He was a native of Erie, PA, but had been residing near Miami, FL to be close to his daughter, Amy. He was born June 10, 1942, son of the late Louis and Helen Kwiatkowski.
Don was a 1960 graduate of East High School where he was a varsity wrestler, football and water polo player. He received his B.S. in Elementary Education from Edinboro State University where he also played football. Later, he completed his master's degree and his Principal's Administration Certificate from the State University of New York at Fredonia.
He retired as principal from Lincoln Elementary School in 1996 after 36 years with the Erie School District. He started his career as a teacher and moved into administration at Diehl, Emerson, Harding, Gridley, Wayne, Burton, Garfield and the old Marshall Schools.
Don loved working and kept busy with his boat at Presque Isle Yacht Club where he was a member. You could find him in the summer fishing for perch and walleye.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Alice, with whom he was married for 54 years and two daughters, Alison Samuels, and Amy Perez, a grandson, Andrew Samuels and two granddaughters, Tatiana and Eva Perez. Additionally he is survived by his brother Louis Kwiatkowski and his wife Kathleen, nieces Marikae Chrzanowski and husband John and sons, Lynn Pruckner and husband Dr. Scott Pruckner and daughters, Kris Timpano and husband Frank and their children and nephew Louis J. Kwiatkowski and wife Cheryl and family.
Friends may attend a Funeral Mass on Wednesday November 17, 2021 at St. James Church 2635 Buffalo Road Erie, PA at 10:30 A.M.
Private burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery
