George S. Devon, 71 of Erie died Saturday March 18, 2017 at UPMC Hamot.  He was born in Erie, PA January 6, 1946 son of the late John J. and Mary Sima Dzvonyicsak.  George lived in Erie all his life.  He graduated from East High School in 1964.  He then graduated from Greene and Kellogg Buffalo NY to become a Respiratory Therapist.  He worked at Hamot Medical Center (now UPMC Hamot) until he started employment with the City of Erie  Dept of Fire as a Chief Fire Alarm Operator/Dispatcher. He worked for the City for 34 years, retiring in October, 2002.  George did many things during his life.  He was an EMT/Paramedic, had his own landscaping business, enjoyed being a Cub Scout and Webelos leader when his son was young to name a few.  He served his community as a Times Old Newsie for many years.  But most of all, he loved his children, wife and family.  He was a pensive, good story-telling,witty, caring gentleman who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.  Besides his parents,  he was preceded in death by son John J. Devon (1997); sisters, Helen Gallant and Irene Skelton.  Survivors include his wife Hedy (Neratko) Devon, daughter, Jen Devon, granddaughter Emily McMahan; sisters, Mary Leonardi, JoAnn Devon, brothers, Joe Dzvonyicsak, and Nick Devon, and many nieces and nephews.  The family wishes to thank Dr. David Hutzel and staff for their compassionate and patient care over the years, UPMC Hamot ER department and Care Management for their support and empathy.  A sincere thanks to Emergycare Inc., not just for their help in the early morning hours but for the friendship & kindness their staff have extended these past 20 years.  Friends may call at the Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home Inc. 2101 Ash St. on Tuesday 2pm to 4pm & 6pm to 8pm and may attend a service there Wednesday at 9:30am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Luke Church 421 East 38th St. at 10am.  Burial will be in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.  The family kindly declines flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children 1645 West 8th St. Erie PA 16505.
