Michael John Skrzypczak, 92, of Erie, Pennsylvania, was called to his heavenly home on June
29, 2023, in Bloomington, Indiana. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, and
a devoted Catholic.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife, Helen, of 69 years and their sons and
spouses/partners; Dan (Charlene Reeger), Bryan (Sandi Skrzypczak), David (Vickie Maxey),
and Joseph; ten grandchildren, Christie (Skrzypczak) Seaton, Jennifer Skrzypczak, James
Skrzypczak, Deidra (Skrzypczak) McLaughlin, Scott Skrzypczak, Wednesday Rome, Maximilian
Rome, Abigail Skrzypczak, Casey Skrzypczak, Jared Skrzypczak; and eight
great-grandchildren. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Skrzypczak and
Martha (Jaskolski) Skrzypczak, his siblings, Irene (Skrzypczak) Krahe and James Skrzypczak,
and eldest son, Michael Skrzypczak.
Michael enlisted in The U.S. Navy from 1947 - 1951 as he served during the time of the Korean
War in the Mediterranean as a Flight Navigator. After discharging from The Navy, Michael met,
fell in love with, and married Helen. Michael continued his education at Gannon University,
where he graduated with his Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering. Following his
graduation, Michael worked as a Draftsman at General Electric (Erie, PA), then as a
Construction Cost Estimator at Sessinghaus & Ostergaard, Inc. (Erie, PA) and at HBE
Corporation (St. Louis, MO), retiring in 1992, when he and Helen returned to Erie."
Michael was an extraordinary story teller and lived a simple life with his wife that was full of golf
outings and road trips. Michael was a truly great man whose impact will be forever felt by his
family, who loves him dearly. His departure from this life has left an unfillable gap in the hearts of
his loved ones. His ability to provide, support, and love will be forever ingrained in all he knew.
The memorial visitation for Michael will take place on Monday, July 10th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the
Carl A. Slomski & Son Funeral Home, 2101 Ash Street, Erie, and at Holy Trinity Catholic Church,
2220 Reed Street, Erie. on Tuesday July 11th from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Mass there at 11am
Burial will follow with full military honors in Mary Queen of Peace Cemetery.
