Jerome P. Maras (Jerry), beloved husband of 72 years to Frances Napierkowski Maras (Faye), passed away peacefully Sunday July 9, 2023 at Fairview Manor. He was born in Erie on September 30, 1927 a son of the late Stephen J. and Louise V. Rogala Maras.
Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Jerry worked at the United States Post Office for many years before retiring in 1986. He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Jerry spent a lot of time at his son Gary's (Maras Family Farm) where he lived for the last three years. There he enjoyed hunting, gardening, mowing, and taking care of the the animals. He especially loved building things, or supervising the building of things and organizing the tools. Jerry was an avid fisherman and loved to share his knowledge. He received two stars from the United States Post Office which he proudly displayed on his boat, naming it Twin Star. Jerry was very artistic and loved to wood burn. His work, over 55 pieces is proudly displayed in the gallery at the Maras Family Farm. His favorite piece was "Trails End".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings Steve, Edwin and Michael Maras, Betty Potocki, Charlotte Maras, Leona Kirkland and Louise Cardille, grandson Daniel Dylewski, son-in-law Harry Staszewski. and daughter-in-law Val Jackson.
In addition to his wife, survivors include five children, Jan Staszewski. Gary Maras, Mary Beth Dylewski (Mark), Bob Maras (Anna) of Pittsburgh PA, Kathy Gabbard (Ken), 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews,
Friends may attend a Funeral Mass at St, John the Baptist Catholic Church on Wednesday July 19, 2023 at 10AM
Private burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
